Who I Am
I was born and raised here in the Carolina's. Growing up, I always enjoyed learning about math and how to utilize it in my life. When I was 16, I first got a job working with children as an archery instructor at the YMCA. Around that same time, I had begun helping my Taekwondo instructor by serving as a interim teacher at various locations. Soon after that, I had taken over one location as it's long-term instructor. I later attended Appalachian State University and obtained my degree in Criminal Justice. A year and a half later, I returned to school and began the transition as a lateral entry mathematics teacher. Since then, I have taught three years of Sixth Grade Mathematics here at Northwest School of the Arts and intend to continue to do so for many years.
More personally, I have trained in Taekwondo since I was six years old and have achieved the rank of Second Degree black belt through the International Taekwondo Federation. My top three hobbies are fishing, video games, and cooking........Fishing would definitely be the number one of those three though. I have been married for one year and have no kids other than our fur baby (a small calico cat, named Hazel).

WHY DO I TEACH?
For far too long, many students grow up thinking they're bad at math and always will be. For many, the struggle really can be like the example next to this!
I grew up being fortunate to have awesome math teachers who made me excited to learn about math and who showed me that things don't have to be so difficult. I teach because I want my students to be successful, and to learn how much fun and easy it really is to do math. |
